going through the door

a few weeks ago ewa and i went to a hindu/christian wedding and we ended up spending quite a bit of time at the reception talking to father john, the episcopalian minister who delivered the christian part of the ceremony. our conversation centered on the much more liberal and socially aware beliefs of the episcopalian church versus the very conservative and socially myopic views of the catholic church. at one point, ewa asked what it took to become episcopalian (beacause becoming a catholic is a long process of classes, retreats, baptism, confirmation, etc.), father john answered, 'just walk in the door.' after seeing this article, that door is looking good.

sick and tired. . .

being sick is always a pain in the ass, but being sick the day before thanksgiving and an impending four day weekend is a real pain in the ass. . .

nothing to exciting to report - the usual all work and no play. ewa is in the midst of her three week stint on the east coast and poland - currently with her mom in poland and i am of course missing her terribly. i will say however that she is back 100% and doing well in poland.

hopefully i will be back at 100% tomorrow to enjoy turkey day with the family and enjoy the holiday. . .ugh, i've haven't got the energy to type anymore - i'm going back to bed. . .

a nice relaxing weekend

well. . . interesting would be one way to describe the weeken, and rather than trying to search for a more appropriate term, i'll dive right in.

friday - ewa came back from her adventures in delaware (those of you who remember the wayne's world quote are my new best friends) friday afternoon and after heading back to her place where i did a bit of work, we headed out to my eye doctors appointment where ewa helped me get some new frames, then headed down to union square for some shopping. at this point ewa had been up since 3am eastern time and i hadn't eaten all day. . . hmmm. . .nothing bad could happen here, could it??

we hit nordstroms, the kenneth cole store, fcuk, gap, baby gap, pink, nine west (where ewa got some hot new boots), and finally banana republic (where i got a new coat) - it was about 7:30 or so and i was cranky and ewa was cranky and we were headed for meltdown. this happened about 15 minutes later in the car on the way to sushi. i yelled at her, she got pissed at me, etc., etc., etc. - anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows the story - one of those arguments that never would have happened if you both hadn't been cranky and peaked in your crankiness at the same time. long story short, we made up, ate some sushi, then went to her house and crashed . . . so far, so good. . .

saturday - i should have known something was wrong when ewa slept in until 9:30am, which is about 2 hours past her usual wake up time. . .her and brigette (her roommate) were headed down to san jose for a dual wedding - one being conducted in a christian tradition and the other in the hindu tradition. it was a small ceremony, so i was only coming for the party at 4pm. so i did what any other man with a free saturday would do - i slept and watched college football . . . very nice.

i eventually made it down to san jose with michelle (a close friend of ewa and friend of the bride and groom) where after helping set up the reception, got to experience my first indian party. the majority of women were in sari's (including ewa, who was quite stunning in her pink sari. . . ) and was interesting to watch everyone interacting throughout the night. after a dinner that included the traditional indian fare, the dancing began, but ewa started feeling a bit under the weather (indigestion maybe?) and we headed back to the city. as we rode, ewa was more and more uncomfortable we ended up back at the house, and soon headed off to bed. . .the fun is just begining.

sunday - the day was to be spent hanging out with my little buddy rafael for the afternoon - dropping off ewa to pack at some point (as she leaves for three weeks - a week at work, a week in poland, a week back at work), then circling back solo for a good bye dinner and ride to the airport. we headed out for coffee and ewa was still feeling bad with pain on her left side and back that got worse and worse to the point that i convinced her to head to the emergency room at st. mary's (this is of course after i find out my grandfather is also in the hospital, haven fallen the previous day and breaking his shoulder). we get there - get her checked in, changed into a gown, and into a bed. i left to pick up rafael, whose plans with me changed from a day running around to a field trip to the hospital!! every kids dream! he lasted about two hours at the hospital, but while there found out ewa had a kidney stone and they doped her up somehting nice. . . .:)

i got rafael back to his home, got back to ewa and got her checked out of the er and feeling pretty good by 8pm. we headed back to her place, ate dinner and crashed out. obviously ewa was going nowhere sunday night, and even though she wanted to leave monday, i bitched enough to get her to stay until tuesday morning. . .ah what a weekend . . wait until i fill you in on monday. . . . .

for christ's sake. . .

another wild and wacky week is coming to a close, and except for work, work, and little bit or work, i really haven't done a whole hell of a lot. but it is friday, and i do have the pleasure or working from home today and ewa is coming back into town (picking her up in about 30 minutes) today and it is almost weekend, and dammit if i couldn't use a cocktail - it's five o'clock somewhere, yes?

on a different note, i was browsing through some old stuff today and rand across the website of my old friend and roommate jacob. i worked with him at fcb - he was a creative genius and put together one of the funniest spoof commercials i've ever seen (need to have quicktime installed to watch it) - check it out. salvation with a side of fries . . . ummmm.

ok - i'm off - time to pick up the beautiful polish girl from the airport and begin the weekend, sort of - will probably go to her house and work some more - but then, then, then, the weekend will begin - i have a feeling my liver is going to take a beating. . .

"your sperm makes me happy"

i made the mistake on saturday of driving down to union square to meet ewa and brigette for a shopping excursion since they were having their hair cut there anyway - wow - it's already a madhouse. it turned out to be good in the end though, because we got some serious rain, and it was nice to have my silver chariot to take me home.

we ended up having cheese and cocktails at ewa's house and hanging out with her next door neighbors - two younger guys who were smashed from a long day of drinking and watching football. ewa and i had plans to eat and drink at the blue muse, where my friend chris works as a bartender and waiter. this night he was the barkeep and we ended up there around 8pm, a bit tipsy, and starving. it was empty, which was fine - we ate dinner and then proceeded to get all kinds of drunk (ewa a bit more than me, but i weigh a good 120 pounds than her, so it's understandable) and actually ended up home by midnight.

sunday came to quickly, and it was labeled maitanance day - we picked up dry cleaning, did laundry, i fixed ewa's shelves, and then we had a nice dinner at home. as if sundays aren't bad enough already, they've gotten a little more sad lately, because not only is monday slowly approaching, but ewa is getting set to leave, and i know i will not see her again until friday, and that is not a happy thought . . such is life i suppose. . .

and here we are with monday - 5:30pm, it's already dark outside, and after a wicked week last night, i'm going to scoot out early - you know, it's pretty sad when you show up to work at 8am, eat at your desk, and get ready to leave at 5:30 and it feels like a treat - stay tuned for tomorrows blog when i tell more about how i have become a schill for the man. . . but not to worry, one day i will be the man someone is the schill for, and i will wield my power unmercilessly!!! (insert evil laugh here) . . . enough rambling. . .time to go . . .

cool kicks

i got some cool new 'kicks' (that's what the kids are calling shoes these days) today - check 'em out. if you like cool kenneth cole shoes too, click here and tell me about it!!

the good doctor

having seen doctor john once before in new orleans, seeing him last night at yoshi's was quite a different experience - as my friend michelle pointed out, it's different seeing dr. john sober and before midnight. very true . . . after picking ewa up from the airport, we headed straight into the city, and after a parking ordeal that spanned 30 minutes, we were off to the east bay.

so bring on the music - the show was awesome - especially the appearance of two topless lesbians making out on stage - in a word. . .wow!!! well, acutually, there were no topless lesbians, but there was some incredible guitar playing, drumming, and of course, singing and piano playing from the good doctor, who is looking quite well for being a new orleans institution.

after a few cocktails, some sushi, and some classic rock/blues/jazz that probably influences more than half of the 'indie' rockers today, whether they admit it or not, i was decompressed, relaxed, and happy. it's great to get back to basics - after spending the last year hitting quite a few shows - seeing some great bands and some crappy bands with names like the electric pussy string cheese orchestra or the black screaming kitty litter devil club. . . it was great to get back to basics, to visit the roots, and to hear the real heart and soul of todays music, still beating strong, still carrying the torch, still showing us what it really is all about. . . keep on keeping on dr. john, and we promise to keep up with you.

i'm a liar. . .

i am a big liar. . . well, not really, but i feel better after getting that out. i've promised to update this thing more often, and i haven't done a damn thing to it this week - you can flog me if you wish. . . actually you can't. . . some of you might enjoy that to much . . . you know who you are, you sickos! :) but i digress - how this blog has gone from a suto-apology to an invitation to a S&M session is a true testament to the workings of the human mind. . .

so, where was i - ah yes - what have i been up too . . . well, last weekend i rented a little house up in inverness for ewa and me - it was actually my birthday gift to her from a few weeks ago, and i must say, we had a fantastic time. we headed up halloween night - it was of course, " a dark and stormy night," to steal a terrible line, and as we were driving through the darkness around s.p. taylor park, ewa began recounting horror stories, and wondering aloud if someone could be in the back seat - after freaking me out sufficiently, she stopped. we arrived at the cabin which we found in the dark down a gravel path, and stayed in, drinking in front of a fire - um. . . perfect night?

ewa let me sleep in until 8am or so on saturday (isn't she a sweetheart?) and then we took of on hike toward the pt. reyes beach - having rained the night before, in was one of the clearest days i can remember - the views were incredible - we even had a clear view of the faralon islands. we headed down the mountain, then back up - made it back to the cabin, cleaned up, and headed out.

we had lunch at the marin cheese factory, a spot i used to go to as a kid, and one that i still love - we ate cheese and bread and salami and sardines and drank a nice half bottle of wine - um. . .perfect afternoon?

we left there to head into pt. reyes station we poked around town - hit the bookstore and bakery, then went down to pick up some more cheese at the cowgirl creamery. we headed back to our mountain home, rested for a bit, then headed out for a walk on the beach at drakes bay right after sunset and then dinner at the point reyes station cafe. we ended the night on the couch in front of the fire again - why mess with perfection?

we headed home on sunday - took a nice drive up highway one, stopped off in stintson for lunch, and then made our return to the city - rested, relaxed, and glad to have been in a cell phone black hole for a few days. . .

which brings us to this week - nothing but work and sleep - ewa has been in delaware all week, and i have been working non-stop on a project that all came fruition this afternoon - it went well and i am exhausted. ewa gets back into town tonight, and i am looking forward to a low stress weekend, starting with checking out dr. john tonight - if i can’t work the stress out from listening to him, i’m really screwed. . .

ok, it’s 4:30 - i’m checking out an hour early(that didn't happen - i ended up working until 7:15 on a friday night. . . got to love it!) - time to start the weekend. . .a big stiff cocktail is just what the doctor ordered. . .
